Structures & Other Things

Sulphur/Cabbage White
Gum Hive
Beech structure, inlaid with plant resins and beeswax. Based on gum honeybee hives and bee tree log hives. 7' l x 18" dia; Trellis on wall: 7 ft. sq.; intersections inlaid with wax and resin.

Pollen Frames
Bent poplar embroidery hoops, with French knots alluding to the compacted/collected pollen by honeybee workers (pollen baskets). This work was meant to be a collection (aesthetic) of the range of regional pollen pigmentations.

This early work is still beckoning me and directly influence more recent works, such as the previous one.

The embroidery frames are more intimate in size and materials, and also having a domestic sensibility to them.

These are about 14" dia. and 1.5" deep; poplar, cotton muslin, embroidery floss. 1992? Doesn't matter..
